Comics and Computer Games

An article I planned for Comic Archive was one on the 2000 AD computer games that appeared in the eighties.
There was some great art produced for these games; it showed the spread of 2000 AD's influence into popular culture.
While I collected loads of images, I never did manage to get around to doing anything on the games. The fact that I'm not a gamer and never actually played these at the time (or since) didn't help!
Computer games went further afield than 2000 AD as well. Roy of the Rovers and Dan Dare got their own games, as well as 'Oink!' comic and 'Gary Lineker's Hot Shot'.
Over the years, I would often take a notion to do something with it, and I amassed a decent collection of rarely seen art from different computer game magazines like CVG, ZZap!, and others.
Another angle I considered was doing a piece on the covers of these magazines that featured art by well-known comic creators, but again the idea fizzled out!
Some nice surprises too, e.g., Jerry Paris, not an artist I was overly familiar with. Why did he never work for 2000 AD? Fantastic artist, and who knew that Jamie Hewlett and Simon Harrison cut their comic teeth doing strips for these magazines?
There is much more comic content in these magazines, like Gosnell and Frey's strip and many other covers. They are well worth looking out for. I should add I don't have any of these magazines; I got them from online archives. Below is is a fantastic example of Comics and computer games colliding, The cover to Kig K Magazine with art by the incomparable Carlos Ezquerra . I have an album on Facebook with load more comic related imager- follow the link! https://www.facebook.com/share/p/16TtnUQoxG/
